At approximately 5:15 PM, firefighters were alerted to a clothes dryer on fire inside of a residence on Crystal Ct. Due to the lack of hydrants in the area, Millstone Fire Dept (32-1), Freehold Indepenent (16-1), and Englishtown Fire Dept (12-1) were dispatched to assist. Chief Keaney (26-2-66) arrived within 5 minutes of dispatch and reported a smoke condition with no visible fire. Chief Keaney was able to close the door to the laundry room to isolate any fire until a handline was put in service. Chief Keaney instructed the first arriving apparatus to deploy a handline, with the 2nd arriving apparatus tasked to overhaul and locating any possible extension. Upon re-entry into the laundry room, fire was observed in and under the drying unit, and it was quickly extinguished. While crews removed the dryer unit from the residence, it was determined that the fire did not extend into the walls. It was determined that the homeowner extinguished most of the fire prior to fire department arrival with a home fire extinguisher. Assisting on scene were officers from Manalapan Police, the Manalapan Fire Bureau, and members from Englishtown-Manalapan First Aid. All units cleared the scene with no injuries approximately 75 minutes after dispatch.
